This workshop is hosted by the Marches branch of the Embroiderers Guild (non members are welcome). We will cover Progging for shaggy rugs and Hooking for pictorial projects, so you can try two techniques or focus on one.
Hooked rugs are very popular in Canada and the USA where they have achieved folk art status.
Progging consists of pulling small fabric snippets through hessian backing to create a shaggy texture for rugs, seat mats and other projects and has been practiced all over the British isles since the industrial revolution when people living near a mill used mill waste. Otherwise, old clothes and bedding were recycled.
It's all hands on - you can make a small project or start something bigger to finish at home.
