This course is suitable for beginners but is also a great follow up for students who have already attended our half day or one day beginner’s course, who should expect to be able to make a more complex product than complete beginners
The course will begin with students learning the basic leather skills (or refreshing your memory of them) by firstly making a small card case or coin purse on the first morning. You will learn marking out, choosing appropriate leather, hand saddle stitching and raw edge finishing.
Following this you will choose one bag to make; this could be a satchel, tote, or messenger bag. We will have prepared patterns and examples to help you decide. It is also possible to modify the examples to produce a bag which is truly unique. You will then be assisted to produce one unlined leather bag.
Course runs on both days from 9.15am – 5pm with a 45 minute break for lunch and tea and cake breaks throughout the day. Light buffet lunch and tea and coffee included in the price. Also included in the price is the leather to make your first card case/coin purse but it does not include the cost of leather and fittings for your bag. Depending on the size of the product you can expect this additional cost to be approx. £20 – £50.
£215 for two days

“Just completed a weekend course with Sarah and three others. Great course, Sarah is an excellent teacher as well as being a great leather worker. On the first day we learnt a lot about leather and leather construction and some good basic skills to get us started. Then we all chose a bag style to suit ourselves and by the end of the weekend had a really practical and useful bag to take home with us together with enough skills to enable us to carry on our new hobby at home. Set in a beautiful part of the country and with a great complimentary lunch each day we were well looked after and I highly recommend this course.”Gerry Stacey
