Solander Case Making

Solander Case Making
Construction of Traditional Conservation Boxes

Course Overview

This workshop is aimed at beginners and anyone unfamiliar with the process of making a solander or clam shell case. These cases were originally designed in the eighteenth century and are used for storing prints, precious books and treasured keepsakes. I make these boxes from grey board covered with paper and book cloth or buckram. The courses take place in a studio/small press on Bircher Common, which is a National Trust site in rural Herefordshire. It's a great location to go for a walk or have a picnic during the lunch break. All material and lunch are included.
